Trying to find the old member's suggestions area. Maybe this is a part of it.

Hi Sharon/Shaun/Nora -- just having my first real look at what you have been working on. i think it is fantastic what you have done, but i'll have to work at it for a while before understanding all of the site's capabilities.

Great idea!
(Are we having fun yet? biggrin smiley)

Shaun?  — at 17:30

I added a 'Printer Friendly' option in the site navigation bar so users can clean up the page prior to printing it out.

Nora  — at 03:01

Hi Sharon and Shaun! I've enjoyed reading the back and forths that the two of you did today. Fascinating! I peaked over you shoulder at the meeting tonight,Shaun, and thought I recognized this Suggestions page. So I came to take a look. I also saw that tonight's Meeting's Minutes were already up. And in reading Sharon's comment, I realized you were busy at tonight's meeting, already putting them on the web. Thanks Shaun - - great work. There were a few words I wanted to change, but I can't remember how. I'll check with you tomorrow. Whoops - 3:00AM. Good night for now.

A huge round of applause for you, Shaun! Minutes appearing here in Fort Langley as the meeting is happening there, 400km or so away! biggrin smiley

One suggestion for the Care Committee re: the questionnaires: I haven't filled one out, since there is no way to indicate in the online survey form, that my interest is high, but not at this time, so I don't want to mislead the co-op. I'm very interested in such a facility for the future, but don't see myself needing an assisted living situation for another ten years or so. It might be wise to add a comment box to the online form, either as it is now, or to redo it as a wiki page, using Hans' Fox form recipe. Just a thought...

Sharon  — at 17:17

They are! Thanks! biggrin smiley

Shaun?  — at 17:12

The rotating images are working now, I think.

Sharon  — at 16:54

While you're tweaking... I tried to get the rotating images from the main site to work here, but couldn't, since it needed a "rotate.php" script from your server to work. I thought these pics might look nice on this page:
AboutTheCo-op at the top, embedded in text, and again on the MembershipInfo page at the bottom, beside the testimonial links. What do you think? Can you figure out how to get it to work?

Sharon  — at 16:33

Thanks! I noticed I only got half way through formatting the text for the minutes of meeting 2200... I have to write a report for a parent meeting tomorrow, so won't be able to do it for a few days. Feel free to finish it, if you like winking smiley Or I could do it later... doorbell...

Shaun?  — at 16:30

Okay, tables for meetings 2200, 2300, and 2400 are done. happy smiley

Shaun?  — at 16:06

biggrin smiley Thanks!  It's time consuming but well worth it.

Sharon  — at 16:01

Omigod! You're a table pro!!! biggrin smiley Lovely Treasurer's Report!!!

Sharon  — at 15:59

Done... to delete a page, simply clear the contents of the edit box and type delete in the box, with no other spaces or anything

Sharon  — at 15:56

Or AGM2007 ( Silly me... just realized you suggested this already!)

Sharon  — at 15:55

The actual link could even be shorter: AnnualMeeting07

Sharon  — at 15:54

Oh right... thinking ahead... :) Should I change the page link to AnnualGeneralMeeting07 or would you like to?

Shaun?  — at 15:53

Yeah, I was just concerned about the next AGM... perhaps [[AGM2007|Annual General Meeting - March 18, 2007]] or something?

Sharon  — at 15:48

Re: Alternate Page Names:
It's generally a good idea to keep page names short. So you could make the link simply [[Annual General Meeting (close brackets) and then, on the actual page, put (:title Annual General Meeting March 18, 2007: close bracket to title the page with the alternate, longer title.

Sharon  — at 15:44
Sharon  — at 15:42

Wow! You did a table on the Treasurers's Report!!! I always have trouble with tables - couldn't get them to work on other minutes I tried. I'm really impressed! biggrin smiley I'll l leave you some links to pages where I couldn't manage it... back soon...

Sharon  — at 15:30

I put a few bullets in the Annual meeting minutes, as an example. Since there isn't an agenda structure in place for this meeting, you might want to put some of the info in bullet format (but feel free to take out the ones I put in as examples if you'd rather do it another way) happy smiley

Sharon  — at 15:09

Aaahhh that must be it. That's the first time it's happened to me.

The minutes look good! I see you're finding your way around with text formatting, wiki style! biggrin smiley

Sharon  — at 15:06

Something is making the page extend really, *really* wide, beyond the borders of the frame, ie. no word wrap. I get a two or three screen wide page. Some sections of the minutes did this, and some didn't. The first one to break the page for me was the section with numbered sub-sections... forget which item (see page "Test" in Meetings)

Shaun?  — at 15:05

From the wiki documentation: "lines that begin with whitespace are treated as preformatted text, using a monospace font and not generating linebreaks except where explicitly indicated in the markup."

I think that's why the wide pages are happening...?

Shaun?  — at 15:02

I think i've finished with meeting 2600...

What sort of page breakage do you mean?

Sharon  — at 14:51

I'm noticing problems with copy/pasting the minutes into the template. I don't have Microsoft Word, but in trying bits at a time, there are some bits that break the page and others that don't. Is it possible to convert the minutes document to plain text (rather than rich text format) before copy/pasting?

Sharon  — at 14:29

Good idea! (emails) I think you can also set it to advise you every so often (ie. once an hour or so?) if there's a flurry of activity on the site.

Shaun?  — at 14:21

Gotcha.  And for now, I've enabled the feature whereby I get an email anytime a page is changed.  Once things start rolling that will be a little too much to keep track of, but for now it will be handy to keep tabs on things.

Sharon  — at 13:44

PS. If you decide to open it up to the general membership now (and not to the public yet) don't worry about restricting editing access for members. The beauty of a wiki is that it logs changes, so if someone goofs, a page can be easily reverted to the previous state by clicking on the "restore" link on the "history" page. And wider access among the membership for member only pages would allow for more collaboration, and shared work. The more contributors the better, imho - shared info, shared expertise, shared responsibility. happy smiley

Sharon  — at 13:19

I think it would be wise to let the Directors see it, and to discuss with them what permissions each section of the site should have. I would suggest restricting the whole wiki to members only for the time being, until a wider discussion has taken place re: privacy etc. and public pages/news pages etc. are updated with current info and ready for public viewing. The Neighbour pages were intended as pages where members who are building their homes could journal the process for friends and family. Members could be given unique identities and passwords (like php forums) and there could be guest access too. I wouldn't feel comfortable opening these pages to public viewing unless privacy issues were discussed with the members involved. Other parts of the site could be public, and other parts could be private for Directors only, or for committee members only, to use as a place for collaboration and/or preparing pages for member/public access. Please see this page for options re: password customisation:
http://softflow.co.uk/design/WebDesign/WikiWebsiteSecurity

Shaun?  — at 13:10

Do you think it's ready for a wider release?  How's the security set up currently -- can we set it up so that anyone can view it but you need a password to make changes?

Sharon  — at 13:04

So the baby's been born! Umbilical cord cut...
Ready to meet the family?

Shaun?  — at 12:42

okay, I've finished changing the links to learn2talk so that they're relative.

They were sprinkled around a little but I was able to search for them and fix them one by one.  Only a half-dozen or so all told, I think.

Sharon  — at 12:29

Okay, whatever you say... (grin)
Sounds confusing, but it also sounds like you're finding your way around wiki-ing... Fun, isn't it! biggrin smiley

Shaun?  — at 12:17

Oh, and I've also set up a map for the picasaweb photo album page, e.g.:

[[Picasa:NewLandscapeMar9th2007 | New pictures]] instead of [[http://picasaweb.google.com/grandviewhousing/NewLandscapeMar9th2007 | New pictures]]

Shaun?  — at 12:08

The majority of links are relative. however, links which were placed inside pages with [[http://...]] style linking are absolute links, not relative, and thus must be modified.

I'm modifying the localmap.txt file so that one can use [[Building:...]] and [[Grandview:...]] for linking between sections.

Oh, nevermind... you can just use [[Building/BuildingPlans]] instead.

Sharon  — at 11:40

That's odd... the links are relative, I think... did you transfer the "uploads" folders with the pics in them? There are different uploads folders for each Group.

Shaun?  — at 10:51

It looks like any of the links that were created with specific references to the learn2talk server still point there.  I'm in the process of figuring that out so that they point to the correct server.  :)

Sharon  — at 10:39

Hi Shaun, happy smiley
Looks great!!!
For some reason, though, it asked for my password again when I clicked on a link on the What's New page to the building plans... same password worked, but I'm wondering if maybe because a new window opened, that might have had something to do with the password authentication? We'll need to streamline password protected areas when you folks sort out who can have what privileges.

Sharon  —  25 March 2007, 20:05

No worries, Nora... the "white water rapids" of this process are over for  a bit and the flow can meander through the next while at a slower pace. Take all the time you need to explore, and feel free to make suggestions for changes if you see something that won't work or if you think of some way it will work better for  you. We won't open to the public and/or general membership until you are all happy with it. And... back to work for me tomorrow. Time to switch gears. ...sigh... happy smiley Love, Sharon

Nora Jukes?  —  25 March 2007, 19:48

Hi, Sharon,
Sorry for lack of communication. We've had company for the last couple of days, plus getting a table load of things priced for this morning's Flea Market at Robson Hall, (Boy, are we going to have fun going to the Sunday morning Market when you're here! I can hardly wait to introduce you to the community of great people here!) then we came home at noon, unpacked the car, Snoozed for an hour, went to the annual Pyrahi Bake that the Doukhobor ---- my sister just called ---- have to go ---- shall be in touch after 11 or midnight.
love, nora

Sharon  —  24 March 2007, 17:49

Hans, thank you for the "trail" through the member testemonials! biggrin smiley

(See the links at the bottom of the testimonial pages)

Sharon  —  24 March 2007, 15:17

Done...
For some reason, it saved it beside your name in the changes list! Too bad I can't look over your shoulder so I could see what went wrong! happy smiley

When writing a link to a new page, or creating a new page link, you need to put the squaere brackets together like this [[ with no spaces between them, ...you typed [ [ ... and you also need to put the first letter of the page name right beside the brackets, with no spaces between the brackets and the page name. Spaces can go between words in the page name, though, but the same thing happens at the end of the page name: no spaces...

Nora Jukes?  —  24 March 2007, 14:29

Hi Sharon,  I noticed that Duplex 11 wasn't registered, so I went to "Edit" and typed in that info: Peter and Elsie Rezansoff, (they were absent on that day, thus no Photo) and then I punched "Save". I checked back on the page, but didn't see a change. Then I went to "History" and found it registered there. Maybe you could fascilitate that change? Thanks. Nora

Nora Jukes?  —  23 March 2007, 23:45

Wow, Sharon!  Have you ever been busy. I can't believe how much has been accomplished.
We've been off line most of the day and I just checked in.
I liked your touch with the Member Testimonials, by adding the Photos. It really makes it come alive!
I'll look some more tomorrow and touch bases with Shaun.
Good Night for now. Love, Nora
