Elmer's Notes

Some advance brief notes regarding the Edmonton trip May 01 through 03, 2007 inclusive.

  • We travelled on 3 vans donated by Don Monroe / Kay Gritchin, Fred and Ann Chursinoff and Marilyn and Elmer Verigin. This was much more economic than the bus as proposed for the 15 people that went. Thank you for the contributions!

  • Thanks to all those who donated to the costs and KCSHC with their $1,500. The aggregate total (over $3,000) funded the gas and the hotel rooms with the members picked up the tab for meals and refreshments. Yes, there was refreshments! President Irene says she had $20 left over after paying for the rooms. Thanks Irene for looking after that.

  • The members of the Care Committee that went (Harry Jukes, Marilyn Verigin and Janice Johnson) asked all the listed questions and the rest contributed with other questions. You guys performed professionally!

  • Irene, Margaret and Harry represented the Directors and they too asked pertinent questions.

  • The Promotions Committee needs an applause as the comments from Capital Care was..."we looked at your website and what a fantastic project you have". We did not need to waste time telling them who we were.

  • Janice has noted all the answers and says that she should have them all in print by mid next week. Thanks Janice!

  • Those of us who went were absolutely astounded and humbled by the hospitality received from Capital Care who arranged to have 5 staff members from various projects (they have about 10) answer our questions and conduct a very informative tour for 2 1/2 hours.

  • Yes, we were overwhelmed with their candid answers and their warmth that we all chipped in and got flowers and candy delivered to them after our tour.

  • I have to admit that the 15 members formed a very cohesive bond and really and worked together to make the trip very enjoyable and rewarding for all.

  • We had a competition (between the three cars using walkie talkies and telephone) to form a catchy phrase that we can use for bumper stickers advertizing and Janice will provide a lst of some 30 or more great ideas. We don't know who won but we did find out that Elmer does not know how to use his cell phone yet.

  • No one got arrested!

Thanks to all of you. Those who wished us well, those who contributed funds and those who went.

I know it will be hard to find volunteers for the next fact-finding trip...especially amongst those who just got back.

It was boring!
