1. Again, thanks to all of you members who turned out on Monday evening, May 7th for the City Council Hearing for the PLR of Grandview Heights.  We came out in force, along with many members of the Emerald Green subdivision area.  It seemed quite evident that everyone was in favour of the project, including the residents from Emerald Green.  The only concern mentioned from the audience, was the access route via 37th Street.  The pressure seems to be on the City to develop the southern access route to 14th avenue for all concerned.  The 3rd reading of our PLR was passed by Council with the caution that final approval was dependent upon the submission and approval of the Engineering drawings (which have been submitted) and the 3rd version of the Geo Tech report.

  2. There has been some coverage of the project in the local papers, however we are planning some sort of gala ceremony on the ‘land’ when work begins up there again.  The media will be invited and you will all be advised of this event.

  3. We have revised and printed more of the informational sheets that were put together a year ago.  Some of these can be seen at the back of the room.  These were used at an informational talk in Nelson on Friday evening, May 11th.  This was organized by our member Patricia Clapp and was held in the Great Western Hotel prior to a talk by the author / gardener, Des Kennedy.

  4. Several of our members went on an informational trip to Edmonton to see and hear about a Care Facility called Laurier House, which is operated on a Life Lease basis.  Members of the Care Committee will be talking further about this wonderful trip, which so many of you kindly helped finance.  We hope to have the photos up on the website soon.

  5. Returning from Edmonton, our 3 vans were in touch with each other via intercoms.  We set up a competition for the best slogan for bumper stickers for Grandview Heights and received a number of suggestions.  We will put these onto the website for others to add to and comment on.

  6. Our members, Sharon Rollit (Fort Langley) and Shaun Crossley (dir) have been putting in countless hours on our website.  This has been in an effort to couple it with a Wiki website which, it is felt, will allow a greater degree of interaction between members – especially those who are unable, for whatever reason, to come to as many meetings as they would like. We have found that our website is one of the more important ways of getting information to prospective members.  We feel that this new Wiki site will also allow for enhanced input on the many topics that our members should be advising us on.

  7. On this same topic, upkeep of our website requires a considerable amount of time and attention.  Is there someone of our members who can give us a hand with this?  Only basic computer skills are required, and it would be a good way to contribute, even if you don’t live nearby.

Thanks to all of you for your support.
Promotional literature and websites are wonderful, but most new members join because of personal contact with someone who is already a member.
