Social housing and the co-operative movement are good. That is one reason why I joined the Kootenay Columbia Seniors’ Housing Co-operative. I like the idea that land is being set aside for future development of low-cost housing for other members of our community. As the population of Canada continues to “age” it is important that there be housing for seniors. We need to provide opportunities for people who have lived and worked in our community to be able to stay here and re-circulate their pension money that they have earned in this community. I like the idea of having a “care” facility that is owned by the people receiving care. The KCSHC is well positioned to develop a living space that not only provides complex care but also promotes the health of all of its members. I am pleased to be a member of the KCHSC.
