Several years ago my husband and I joined the Health and Housing Cooperative in Nelson. Their objective at the time was to make application to operate and administer the new facility that would replace Mount St. Frances.

The concept of the facility was what we were shopping for at that time, but unfortunately their proposal was rejected by the IHA. The object of the proposal was to operate and administer the facility on a non-profit basis. In turn, upon rejection of their application, the CoOp entered into another venture, in which they are to purchase, and re-vamp the old Notre Dame University Dorms into seniors housing based on the coop philosophy. However this program is limited and does not meet our requirements. IHA had indicated at this time that they do not see, in the near future, any interest in or construction of senior's facilities in this area.

KCSH Cooperative is exactly what the 'doctor' ordered. People should realize the opportunity, which has been offered them at an affordable price, and in one of the best situated areas in North America. We all expect health, wealth and prosperity right to our dying day. But unfortunately, reality sets in when we become older and find ourselves out in the cold. If we are not prepared to invest and administer for our own future, as we get older, then we should be prepared to take potluck.

My husband and I both sincerely encourage you to take a good look at what is being offered today. Take a look at what you'll have tomorrow if this opportunity slips by.

January 2010

We have been at Grandview for nearly a year now and it is better than all our expectations. The house is comfortable and we are enjoying it. Nearly all unpacked and getting ready for the Giant Garage Sale in the Spring. The people up on the ledge are great and we have had some fun times doing crafts or just visiting each other. At the Christmas Party we were able to socialize with a larger group of members.

We are all looking forward to Grandview Manor being constructed because then we will have the Community Room, Computer Room, Hairdressing/Barber Shop etc... This will give us a place where we can meet more often and expand our interests.

Grandview being built on the level allows our members and those of the surrounding community the ease of walking all Winter for exercise. Even allowing members with walkers to get out and enjoy themselves.

Now we look forward to planting the gardens in Spring and seeing the flowers bloom that we planted last Fall. Our trees look like they survived the Winter. Yes, this is a great place to be as it allows us the freedom to travel and not worry because someone is looking after our place. No snow shoveling unless you want to and the lawns will be watered and mowed.

Glad to be at Grandview at this time of our lives, our Summer will be spent golfing and enjoying life.
